SIENNA MCX and Coax Shield Scribers

SIENNA Scribers utilise the latest air cooled Solid State Nd:YAG laser technology to provide excellent beam quality and small focal spot size. They provides the highest quality, most reliable, method of scribing and cutting of very fine gauge micro-coaxial(MCX) shields for high volume industrial electronics applications.

SIENNA Scribers are compact bench top system with a scan area (scribing area) of 100 mm (4 inches). in combination with the SIENNA 200 wire stripper it provides customers with a compslete laser solution for stripping and cutting MCX cables of the type used in manufacture of notebook computers, mobile phones, digital cameras, ultrasound transducer cables, etc. Both ribbon cables and single core wires can be scribed; single core wires may be grouped and processed simultaneously in batches within the scan area to maximise productivity.

A typical scribing process using equipment is as follows:

• Any standard SIENNA wire stripper is first used to remove the outer jacket of the wire thereby exposing the cable shield.
• The shield normally then has solder applied to it prior to scribing.
• A SIENNA scriber is used to scribe a line in the soldered shield.
• The shield is broken at the scribing point to expose the underlying dielectric material and the shield pulled back or removed as required to expose the inner connection.
• The standard SIENNA is used again to strip the inner conductor ready for termination.

All SIENNA series machines contain the laser, optical system, control electronics, power supplies, and mechanical components. Just plug in and go, Air exhaust, if not available on site, can be provided by the optional self-contained ACS-4 air cleaning system.
