Spectrum helps promote engineering and languages in South Wales schools

Spectrum Technologies is continuing its commitment to working with local schools and getting youngsters interested in engineering and design.

The company is keen to get pupils excited about the cutting edge technology that Spectrum Technologies has become renowned for and spark interest in the engineering sector.

With all our products designed, developed, tested and built in-house by a highly-skilled workforce, it’s the ideal place for budding engineers to get a taste of how exciting this industry can be.

A group of CAD students from Gorseinon College recently toured the building and spoke to our specialist design engineers, taking a particular interest in the programmes used to design our high-tech products.

We also played host to a group of local Air Cadets who toured the factory and were given an insight into what Spectrum does.

In addition to visits from potential young engineers Spectrum has been involved in the Business Language Champions scheme for the last year.

Piloted by CILT Cymru, the scheme highlights the growing concern over the availability and level of language skills in the UK.

It inspires companies to actively engage in partnerships with a focus on language learning.

Spectrum is ideally placed for the scheme - being a major exporting company, we recognise the importance of being able to communicate in different languages and the respect that customers award you for making the effort to do so.

Under the scheme, Spectrum has been paired with Pencoed Comprehensive School in Bridgend, South Wales.

Rachael Pugh, International Sales & Marketing Assistant at Spectrum, and fluent French speaker, visited one of the school's Year 11 French classes and worked with them to explain and demonstrate how languages are used in Spectrum's day to day business.

The partnership is continuing this year with a new group of Year 11 pupils and potential engineers of the future.
