Bridgend, UK – October 2024 – Spectrum Technologies is excited to celebrate its 35th anniversary, marking three and half decades of excellence and leadership in industrial laser technology.
Since its founding in 1989, Spectrum has been at the forefront of industrial laser applications and technology, providing solutions for the aerospace, defense, and electronics sectors. With its headquarters in Bridgend, UK, and offices in Fort Worth, USA and Shanghai, China, Spectrum has established itself as the global leader in laser wire processing technology for the aerospace sector, proudly serving major clients such as Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and SpaceX.
Following the introduction of the world’s first UV laser wire marking system in 1990, Spectrum has maintained its market leading position through a process of research and continuous innovation and new product development. Launched in 2017, the company’s 6th Generation NovaTM laser wire markers are the industry benchmark. Today, Spectrum has delivered over 1,200 laser wire markers and several thousand laser wire strippers worldwide. With over 95% of sales coming from exports for the last 30 years, Spectrum remains a trusted partner to industry leaders across the globe.
Responding to the downturn resulting from the global pandemic, Spectrum’s team of dedicated employees demonstrated remarkable resilience, helping the business to successfully recover and propelling its exports to new highs. In the last financial year, ended 31 March 2024, the company achieved record sales and profits as it broke through the £10M sales mark for the first time. With exciting new products set to launch later in the financial year, Spectrum continues to strengthen its position as a leader in industrial laser technology solutions.
After more than three decades at the forefront of laser technology, the company remains committed to investing in research and development, ensuring it stays ahead in providing next-generation solutions. Spectrum is also strongly focused on sustainability. The company has been carbon neutral since 2021 and has set a goal of reaching net zero by 2030, embracing environmentally friendly practices across its operations.
Spectrum’s Chairman, Dr Peter Dickinson, said
“After going through an incredibly challenging period with Covid, which saw sales drop by 30% in a matter of months, I am immensely proud of the team at Spectrum, who have helped pull the business around. In autumn 2020, we didn’t have any realistic expectations of the business returning to anything like normal before 2024 or 2025. In fact, our sales team have helped nearly double turnover from 2020 to March 2024, passing £10M for the first time. Our Operations and Customer Services teams have responded brilliantly throughout this period, managing to keep customers satisfied against the constraints of global supply chain issues and, in the early period, travel restrictions. Meanwhile our Engineering team have been working on a range of product improvements to our core products and designing new products for new markets. Overall, it has been an immense effort on everyone’s part, for which I thank them. Today the international aerospace industry relies totally on the laser marking technology pioneered by Spectrum, for processing and identifying aircraft electrical wiring. At any time, there are around 12,000 commercial aircraft from the global airline fleet in the air, carrying over 1 million miles of laser marked wire, circling the planet”.
